A project to resurface and repave the roadway and add improvements to enhance motorist, cyclist and pedestrian safety is continuing on Oakridge Boulevard. The three-lane roadway is being reduced to two lanes and a 7-foot protected bike lane will be installed as part of the Florida Department of Transportation’s project. The bike lane will be painted green and protected using the ZICLA Zipper system, which is a series of reflective, raised separators designed to protect cyclists and prevent motorists from entering the bike lane. The ZICLA Zipper system will be installed toward the end of the project, after the milling and resurfacing is complete.
A bicycle lane transition will also be installed at Grandview Avenue. This transition will allow bicycles to safely access the sidewalk from the bicycle lane.
Other improvements include a dedicated left turn lane from Oakridge Boulevard onto Halifax Avenue and landscaping enhancements.
Currently the existing curb and a portion of the sidewalk on the south end of Oakridge Boulevard are being removed and a new concrete curb is being installed. These improvements will provide more room for pedestrians to safely cross the road and will upgrade sidewalks to meet ADA standards.
As construction continues, there will be intermittent pedestrian ramp closures at North Halifax Avenue, North Peninsula Avenue, North Oleander Avenue, North Wild Olive Avenue and North Grandview Avenue. There is also a continuous single lane closure on Oakridge Boulevard from just west of North Halifax Avenue to S.R. A1A.
The project is scheduled to be complete early 2022 (subject to weather or unforeseen circumstances).
