Daytona Beach Resident Arrested Again For Drug Dealing

135 North Street POP Unit raid 08-31-2021 488 x 450

The resident of an apartment in Daytona Beach is now facing charges after members of the Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) received numerous tips that she was using her residence as a place for selling drugs again.

45-year-old Kelly C. Cooke was booked at Volusia County Jail (VCJ) on two felony counts of keeping a public nuisance structure for drug activity and possession of fentanyl along with a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia after DBPD’s Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Unit entered her dwelling at 135 North Street, Apartment 2 last Tuesday (August 31, 2021).

Officers obtained a search warrant signed by a Volusia County judge before the raid, which took place at 11:20 a.m. It’s the second time this year that investigators have done that, according to DBPD Captain Scott Lee.

“Our Special Investigations Unit entered her apartment last May and found a drug distribution operation inside along with over 2 grams of crack cocaine and over $2,000 in cash,” Lee noted. “Clearly, she hasn’t learned her lesson because we found her doing the same thing again. Maybe now it’ll sink in.”

In Tuesday’s raid, the POP Unit found half a gram of fentanyl hidden inside a clear container in the living room along with a glass smoking device and a digital scale similar to those used by drug dealers to weigh their product.

Because she was out on probation for her May arrest, Cooke will be held without bond at VCJ on two felony counts of violating probation. She and a man who also lived in that apartment were charged in the May raid with felony cocaine possession and misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession.

This is the third time this year DBPD has placed Cooke in handcuffs. A week prior to the August raid, Cooke was booked at VCJ on a misdemeanor battery charge related to a domestic violence case. She was released within 24 hours.
