Today (March 31, 2022) at 3:22 p.m., two Daytona Beach police officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Essex Rd. in reference to a well-being check.

Officers arrived on scene and attempted to contact the subject listed in the call but was unable to locate them.

While walking back to their patrol calls, the two officers heard three to four gunshots ring out, directed at them. The two officers could hear the rounds as they narrowly missed them.

Thankfully, the two officers were not injured in this incident.

We take this type of violence very seriously and an attack on our officers will not be tolerated. We will be conducting a relentless investigation into this cowardly act.  A door-to-door search was conducted to ensure everyone’s safety.

We do not believe there is any immediate threat to the community but will be increasing our presence in this area until this incident is resolved and fully investigated.

If you have any information on this case, please contact us at (386) 671-5200.
