The streetscape for Beach Street, which will reduce the roadway from four lanes to two lanes, was a concept identified as a need for the area in the Riverfront Master Plan, which was approved by the City Commission in July 2010. Pedestrian-orientated and aesthetics improvements to three blocks on Beach Street – between Orange Avenue and Bay Street – in downtown Daytona Beach are projected to begin in early 2020. The project will be completed in phases and work will be done during overnight hours to limit disruption of traffic and business.
