New City Manager Deric Feacher starts June 1

Incoming City Manager Deric Feacher's employment agreement was approved this week by the City Commission. He is scheduled to start Tuesday, June 1.

Mr. Feacher is replacing City Manager Jim Chisholm, who is retiring after serving the city for nearly 17 years. Mr. Feacher, a graduate of Bethune-Cookman University, has 20 years of senior level experience working in local government.

Police Department launches redesigned app

Daytona Beach Police Department has redesigned its free mobile app with new interactive features. The redesigned app offers an easy way to access many items of interest including the ability to receive real-time traffic, weather and emergency alerts; file a police report without having to call or visit the police department; and submit anonymous crime tips.

Other features of the app include:

Push Notifications: Receive real-time traffic conditions, severe weather and emergencies such as a reported threat to public areas like schools, malls and stadiums
Provide direct feedback to DBPD
Request a Vacation Home Check
Asset Tracker: Store vital details useful for locating stolen property

The app is available to the general public for free in Apple’s App Store and Google Play. More information about the redesigned app can be found on the police department’s website.

Ocean with Daytona Beach Coastal Resiliency Planning

Public invited to two virtual coastal resiliency planning meetings

The public is invited to attend virtual meetings to learn about two utility-related studies, which will help the city better understand the possible influences from projected sea-level rise and flooding events. The meetings are at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, and Tuesday, April 27.

Anticipating effects of sea-level rise and flooding events
The first study includes conducting a vulnerability assessment and creating an adaptation plan to address sea-level rise associated with global climate and environmental change.

Assessing impact of sea-level rise to critical infrastructure
The second study will assess the impact of potential sea-level rise to the Bethune Point Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Gear the kids up! Registration is happening for summer camps!

The city’s popular summer camp program will begin Monday, June 7, and continue through Friday, Aug. 6, with safety protocols in place due to the pandemic. The nine-week program is for children ages 5 to 16 years old and will be from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (closed Monday, July 5). Breakfast and lunch, sports, crafts and games are provided at the summer camps.

Due to the pandemic, camp participation will be reduced to 50 percent occupancy, and there are no field trips planned for participants.

There are four sites in Daytona Beach for the summer camps:

Midtown Community Center, 925 George W. Engram Blvd.
Schnebly Recreation Center, 1101 N. Atlantic Ave.
Sunnyland Park, 825 Washington St.
YSG Community Center, 1000 Vine St.

Registration for the summer camps is open to current after-school participants through Friday, April 30, at the city’s Leisure Services office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
