COVID-19 Update: County and state assistance

Volusia County Utility Assistance
Electric and water assistance is available to eligible low-income households who have a past-due balance on their utility account. Also, low-income households are encouraged to apply for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program’s (“LIHEAP”) Home Energy credit to their electric account even if they are not past-due. As long as a household is under the income threshold, resides in Volusia County and the utility account is in a household member’s name they may qualify for the Home Energy credit.

Low-income households who have fallen behind on their monthly housing obligation may qualify for financial assistance to be provided to their landlord or mortgagor. A renter must have a past-due notice from their landlord and a homeowner must present a mortgage statement reflecting a current past-due balance. A household may not be more than three months behind of their regular monthly housing payment obligation to qualify.

How to apply for Volusia County assistance
Households may apply online for electric assistance. Persons may schedule an appointment with a case worker for electric, water or housing assistance by calling (386) 239-7757.

State launches OUR Florida Program
The state has launched the OUR (Opportunities for Utilities and Rental Assistance) Florida Program, which is its federally-funded emergency rental assistance relief program to support residents and businesses.
