Custom yard signs available to show support for Officer Raynor & DBPD

As Officer Jason Raynor remains hospitalized at Halifax Health Medical Center with his family by his side, residents are encouraged to continue to pray for Officer Raynor, his family and the Police Department.
 
To show support during this trying time, custom yard signs have been printed with the message of Daytona Strong and Raynor Strong. For a $20 donation, residents can show their support with one of these signs. All proceeds will be donated to the Raynor family.

Starting tomorrow (July1), signs are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the front desk of the Police Department’s Headquarters at 129 Valor Blvd. Cash or check will be accepted.

Independence Day weekend activities


Summer Splash Bash
Youth are invited to a Summer Splash Bash from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at the city’s Cypress Aquatic Center. There will be free pool admission for the first 70 kids, ages 16 and under. As part of the event there will be free hotdogs, chips and drinks, music and fun.

The Summer Splash Bash is sponsored by Commissioner Quanita May, Commissioner Paula R. Reed and the City Manager's Office. Cypress Aquatic Center is located at 981 George Engram Blvd. in Daytona Beach. 

July 4 Veterans Ceremony and Parade on Main Street
The Marine Corps League Daytona is hosting a special July 4th Veterans Ceremony and Parade on Main Street in observance of Independence Day.

The ceremony begins at 9 a.m. Sunday, July 4, by the Clock Tower between the Boardwalk and the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort at 100 N. Atlantic Ave. Mayor Henry will read a proclamation as part of the ceremony that will honor deceased Master Gunnery Sgt. Hobson McLeod-Bethune, who retired from the U.S. Marine Corps. McLeod-Bethune, born in Daytona Beach in 1956 and the grandson of Dr. Mary McLeod-Bethune, served for 28 years with the USMC.  
 
Following the ceremony there will be a parade featuring combat veterans, as well as military organizations, beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday that starts at the east end of Main Street and travels to the base of the Main Street Bridge. The public can view the parade from the sidewalks along Main Street.
 
There are more than 20 participants in the parade including the Coastal Florida Police and Fire Pipes & Drums, Team Red, White & Blue, numerous veterans’ organizations and the city’s fire and police departments.
 
For the parade, motorist should allow for extra time when traveling in the area Sunday morning. Roads affected for the parade include:

  • Beginning at 9 a.m. Main Street will be closed to motorists from Halifax Avenue to Atlantic Avenue.
  • Halifax Avenue, Peninsula Drive and Atlantic Avenue will remain open until the parade reaches those intersections, which at that time, the intersections will be closed, and the north and southbound traffic will be stopped to allow the parade to cross.

Save on recreation and outdoor items during Freedom Week Sales Tax Holiday

Enjoy extra savings through Wednesday, July 7, when purchasing qualifying recreation and outdoor items and admissions to entertainment and cultural events exempt from tax during the 2021 Freedom Week Sales Tax Holiday. Save on boating and water activity, camping, fishing and general outdoor supplies as well as sports equipment.

Free COVID-19 Vaccinations

COVID-19 vaccines offered at Styles 101 Barbershop Thursday, July 8

Shots at the Shop! In an effort to expand access to COVID-19 vaccines, there will be a free community vaccination clinic from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 8, at the Styles 101 Barbershop at 955 Orange Ave. in Daytona Beach.

The Health Department will provide the Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines to people ages 12 and older. No appointment is needed for the clinic; walk-ins are welcome. Persons receiving the vaccine must have identification. People who receive the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine will have to return 28 days later for their second dose of vaccine. For more information, call (386) 274-0500, press #.
