Community Listening Sessions for Coronavirus Recovery Funds

Public invited to community listening sessions for Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Funds

The public is invited to participate in listening sessions to learn about the Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Funds the city is receiving and provide feedback on how the monies should be used. The city’s allocation from the federal government is $15 million.

The Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Funds provide substantial flexibility to meet local needs—including support for households, small businesses, impacted industries, essential workers and the communities hardest hit by the crisis. The funds can also be used to make necessary investments in water, sewer and broadband infrastructure.

Citizen feedback is an important part of the process in determining how the funds will be used. The listening sessions begin at 6 p.m. on the following days and locations:

Tuesday, July 13
Midtown Cultural and Educational Center
925 George W. Engram Blvd.

Wednesday, July 14
Schnebly Recreation Center
1101 N. Atlantic Ave.

Thursday, July 15
Daytona Beach Police Department Headquarters*

Register for tour of city’s innovative water treatment facility

Residents can register for an educational tour of the city’s full-scale direct potable reuse demonstration testing system at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 27. Due to limited space in the facility, attendance will be capped at 15 people and filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Located at the city's wastewater treatment plant off LPGA Boulevard, the innovative facility processes treated effluent and produces purified water, which is then returned to the wastewater treatment process and is not placed in the city’s drinking water supply.

The facility is part of a pilot program with the St. Johns River Water Management District to provide valuable, continuous, real-time data that will be available for use by regulatory agencies to assist them with developing standards and guidelines for this technology. The two-year data gathering effort of the demonstration is expected to be completed this fall.

For more information and to register, visit the city’s website.
