Free COVID-19 vaccines offered in Daytona Beach

Upcoming COVID-19 vaccine clinics

New treatment center opens
With Volusia County’s positivity rate around 18% for a two-week average, residents are encouraged to get their vaccine as soon as possible to protect themselves and others.

  • Free COVID-19 vaccines will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church located at 540 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. No appointments are required at the clinic. 
  • Free COVID-19 vaccines will be available for people ages 12 and older from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Yvonne Scarlett-Golden Cultural and Educational Center at 1000 Vine St. No appointments are required. ID is required to receive the vaccine. $10 food vouchers will be provided to people who receive the vaccine.

Monoclonal Antibody Infusion Treatment Center opens
A monoclonal antibody infusion treatment center in Ormond Beach has opened. Anyone age 12 and older with COVID-19 or an exposure can receive treatment free at the Ormond Beach Senior Center at 351 Andrews St. The center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Appointments are highly encouraged and can be made online at www.patientportalfl.com. Walk-ins may be accommodated should space allow, but appointments will receive first priority.

City Commission meeting dates in September change

September's commission meeting dates change

Due to timelines established by the State Legislature, the dates of City Commission meetings in September have been adjusted to the second and fourth Wednesdays. Public hearings to establish the city’s tax rate and approve the next fiscal year’s budget are scheduled for Sept. 8 and Sept. 22.

The proposed tax rate is $5.5300 per $1,000 in assessed value. The preliminary budget, which takes effect Oct.1, includes $212.2 million in operating and $14.2 million in capital expenditures and funds 944 fulltime positions.

Youth swimming lessons offered at public pools

Register for swim lessons 

Registration is open for youth swimming lessons beginning the week of Sept. 6 at the city’s two aquatic centers.
 
Lessons are for children ages 6 to 10, with participants divided into three groups: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Lessons for each group will be 30 minutes in duration, starting with beginners at 4:30 every Monday and Wednesday at Cypress Aquatic Center, 981 George W. Engram Blvd. Lessons will be every Tuesday and Thursday, starting with beginners at 4:30 p.m. at Campbell Aquatic Center, 400 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
 
Lessons are $30 per participant for a total of eight lessons. Financial scholarships are available for qualifying youth. Registration is at the Cypress Aquatic Center, which is open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

September 11 ceremony at Fire Department

Join us to commemorate Sept. 11

Join in recognizing the 20th Anniversary of September 11th during a ceremony at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Fire Station #1 located at 301 S. Beach St. The Daytona Beach Fire Department is hosting the special recognition of this important date in our nation’s history.
