Chris Clarke and Friends perform Saturday at Daisy Stocking Park

Chris Clarke and Friends will take the stage at 7 p.m. Saturday for the final performance of the free city-sponsored Midtown Music Concert Series at Daisy Stocking Park, 550 Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd. Clarke will be performing with Randy Bordon and Dimas Sanchez.
 
Clarke studied at The Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music and Berklee College of Music. Clarke was mentored by Kansas City artists including Claude “Fiddler” Williams, Frank Smith, Elbert James “Coots” Dye and Ahmad Aladeen. Bordon is a multi-genre bass player who studied at the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory in Havana, Cuba. Sanchez is a drummer and percussionist who integrates Puerto Rican folklore with jazz, blues and other musical styles.

Special Events Taskforce meets Wednesday at the Ocean Center

The Special Events Taskforce created following the Truck Meet in June will have a meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ocean Center. The meeting will bring together city and county leaders and elected officials to discuss managing unsanctioned events and how they work together with mutual aid during sanctioned events. 

Invited attendees include mayors, managers and police chiefs from cities on the county’s east side, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, the Volusia County Chair and Volusia County Beach Safety as well as leaders from the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Lodging and Hospitality Association of Volusia County. The public is welcome to attend the meeting. The meeting will air online at www.codb.us.

Zone 2 Special Election Update

There was a Special Primary Election for Zone 2 this week. Official results from the Volusia County Supervisor of Elections Office reflect Ken Strickland captured 35.4% and Larry McDermott received 34.2% of the 1,089 votes. There will be a runoff election Nov. 2. Only voters in Zone 2 are eligible to vote. For more information, visit www.volusiaelections.org.

COVID-19 Testing and Treatment Available

Free COVID-19 testing available at Midtown Community Center
Free COVID-19 testing is available at the Midtown Community Center, 925 George W. Engram Blvd., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointments are preferred; however, walk-ups are welcome.
 
Testing is offered through a partnership the city has with private provider Curative Inc., the Florida Department of Health and Volusia County.  
 
Appointments can be booked on Curative’s website or by calling (888)702-9042. Tests are available for symptomatic and asymptomatic patients ages one year and older. Patients can expect results within 48 hours upon receipt at the lab.
 
COVID-19 Monoclonal Antibody Infusion Treatment Center
A monoclonal antibody infusion treatment center in Ormond Beach is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Anyone age 12 and older with COVID-19 or an exposure can receive treatment free at the Ormond Beach Senior Center at 351 Andrews St. Appointments are highly encouraged and can be made online at www.patientportalfl.com. Walk-ins may be accommodated should space allow, but appointments will receive first priority.

Interested in ballroom dancing? Then check out Bailey’s Best with Diane. This group meets from 2 to 4 p.m. every Wednesday at Schnebly Recreation Center at 1101 N. Let’s Market
Join the Schnebly Writers’ Marketing Group from 10 a.m. to noon on the first Friday of the month at Schnebly Recreation Center. This writing group is led by published author Sarah Kage. A separate writing group called the “Owls” meets the same day from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to share marketing ideas with other authors. The fee is $1 per person.
