Final weekend of Bike Week expected to be busy in Daytona Beach

Bike Week is underway with thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts here enjoying our beautiful city. The weather forecast through the weekend includes rain, and motorists are advised to use caution when driving. Motorists need to be on the lookout for motorcyclists, give them extra space, don’t cut them off and look twice, save a life.

Large crowds are expected near the Daytona International Speedway, Main Street, Beach Street and Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard. Traffic is restricted to only motorcycles on Main Street from Peninsula Drive to Atlantic Avenue during peak hours. Other motorists must use the side roadways or receive special permission to access the area. For tips on traveling in Daytona Beach during Bike Week, visit the Police Department’s website.

Change your clocks, change your batteries

Change your clocks, change your batteries in smoke alarms

A message from the Daytona Beach Fire Department…Smoke detectors saves lives when they operate properly. Most are battery operated or have battery backup features. Residents are urged to replace alarm batteries twice a year. The ideal time to change the batteries is when clocks are adjusted this weekend. This preventative measure takes just a moment and is the best defense against the devastating effects of a home fire. Additionally, smoke detectors should be replaced every 10 years.
