City Commission meets Wednesday, April 6

The City Commission will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, at City Hall. Commissioners will first convene for a Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) meeting, followed by a City Commission meeting.

Commission meetings are broadcast online and on Spectrum Channel 490. They are also recorded and available for viewing online. Residents can sign up to receive agendas via text or email.

Bike Week / Biketoberfest Workshop, April 5

There will be a Bike Week / Biketoberfest Workshop at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at City Hall in room 149B. At the workshop, attendees can learn about submitting an application and the review process, hear from the city’s Permits and Licensing Division and be a part of the discussion about proposed changes to the Master Plan map boundaries. Did you know you can sign up to receive city agendas, alerts, developer-initiated meeting notices, job announcements, the City Manager’s Update and more to your inbox or mobile device?

Alerts: When an emergency occurs, including major road closures, residents can stay informed by receiving updates via text and email through the city’s alert system.
Developer-initiated meetings: The city uses an automated notification system to improve communication between residents and developers and will send an alert to subscribers via email and/or text when a developer schedules a neighborhood meeting.
The City Manager’s Update provide more in-depth details about projects and initiatives happening in the city and is distributed on days the City Commission meets.

Cedar Highlands repaving almost complete

The city’s ambitious road resurfacing program is finishing up paving in the Cedar Highlands area and moving into the next phase, which is the 3rd Street corridor. Crews are working 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Both areas are scheduled to be complete by the beginning of May, weather dependent.

The Love Band kicks off the Midtown Music Concert Series

The city-sponsored Midtown Music Concert Series begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9, with a performance by The Love Band at Daisy Stocking Park in Daytona Beach.

The Love Band originated on the campus of Bethune-Cookman University. Its members are former students who love to perform for folks who love to dance. The band has performed in the Bahamas, at NASCAR events, music festivals, private galas, colleges, universities and countless private parties.

The Midtown Music Concert Series showcases the best local bands from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on select Saturday nights through September. Daisy Stocking Park is at 550 Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd. Food and drink vendors will be onsite during the concerts. Attendees can bring their own lawn chairs. No coolers are allowed.

Be a part of the Easter Beach Run

After being canceled the past two years due to the pandemic, the Easter Beach Run is back! Be a part of this Easter tradition, which is Saturday, April 16, on the beach by the Daytona Beach Oceanfront Bandshell.

Custom finisher medals and shirts are provided for the first 800 registered 2-mile/4-mile runners and walkers completing the race. There are also kids’ races that start at 10:30 a.m.
