Watch April 20 City Commission meeting online

City commissioners met Wednesday night and people who were not able to attend can watch the video of the meeting on the city’s website.
 
Commissioners approved a contract to expand and remodel restrooms at Peabody Auditorium, an agreement with FDOT to install sidewalks and drainage improvements in the Derbyshire Sports Complex and an amendment to the Master Plan guidelines for annual biker events.
 
Congratulations to residents Anne Ruby, Pierre Louis, Bill Chapin, Percy Williamson, Kenneth Hunt, Steven Pyle and Evans Smith, who were appointed to the new Orange Avenue Recreation Center Citizen Committee at Wednesday night’s meeting. This committee will work collaboratively over the next few months to recommend uses and historic designation of the building.

CRA annual report is available online

The 2021 annual report for Daytona Beach’s Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is posted on the Redevelopment Department’s web page. The report highlights projects during the CRA’s fiscal year, beginning Oct. 1, 2020, and ending Sept. 30, 2021. The CRA is responsible for approving an annual budget and funding projects and programs in the city’s five redevelopment areas. 

New projects highlighted in the report include:

  • Construction update on the Riverfront Esplanade opening this year
  • Completion of the Brown & Brown Insurance headquarters on Beach Street
  • Opening of two new businesses on Beach Street: Galerie Elan and Little Italy Ristorante
  • The Daytona Grande Hotel opened in the Main Street Redevelopment Area.

Head downtown for the Spring Wine Walk

Tickets are on sale for the Spring Wine Walk in downtown Daytona Beach Saturday. Enjoy strolling through shops on Beach Street and sampling wines from 1 to 5 p.m. Advance tickets are $25 and can be purchased online through 11:30 p.m. tonight. Tickets are available the day of event at registration points for $30 until they sell out. There is plenty of free parking available behind the Riverfront Shops.

Family Fun Day Monday at Health Department's newest location

The Health Department is hosting a Family Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at their newest location at 421 S. Keech St. The event will include an expo of available community services, rock painting, scooter giveaways, grocery giveaways and vouchers, arts and crafts, food, music, games and a kids’ zone. Families will be able to learn about WIC, health screenings and immunizations, dental services, responsible pet ownership and low-cost pet services, mobile hotspots available from Volusia County Library Services, utility and housing assistance and summer programs for children.

Tickets are on sale for “Happy Together” tour

Tickets are on sale for the “Happy Together” tour performing at 8 p.m. Monday, June 6, at Peabody Auditorium. Tickets are available online or between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Peabody Box Office. Ticket prices range from $47 to $67 plus surcharges.
 
Presented by Elko Concerts, the “Happy Together” tour is a festive concert with chart-topping hits from the 1960s and 1970s. Headlined by The Turtles, the evening will include performances by The Association, The Buckinghams, The Classics IV, The Vogues and The Cowsills.
