Enjoy great food and fun at Saturday’s Crab & Seafood Festival in Daytona Beach. This city-sponsored, family event is 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd. between Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd. and Charles Street.

City has openings on citizen advisory boards

Citizen advisory boards play an important role in shaping a community and active residents are a key component of healthy, prosperous neighborhoods. More than 150 community leaders serve on the city’s 21 different advisory boards. They provide guidance, expertise and recommendations, from a citizen’s perspective to the City Commission on important issues and projects in Daytona Beach.

We are looking for additional volunteers to serve on the following boards:
 
• Beachside Redevelopment Board
• Board of Adjustment
• Board of Building Codes
• Downtown Redevelopment Board
• Historic Preservation Board
• Housing Authority Commission
• Nuisance Abatement Board
• Personnel Board

The city is teaming up with The Nature Conservancy, the county and area cities in the City Nature Challenge starting today through Monday. During those days, residents are invited to help document the amazing plant and wildlife in the city’s parks and green spaces through the iNaturalist app.

If you are thinking about buying a home, make plans to attend the free Housing Fair & Financial Clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Allen Chapel AME Church at 580 George W. Engram Blvd.

Swing into summer with youth tennis lessons

Derbyshire Community Tennis is offering free youth tennis lessons beginning Tuesday, May 3, at Derbyshire Sports Complex at 849 Derbyshire Road. Lessons are 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. every Tuesday and Wednesday for six weeks. The lessons are for youth ages 6 to 18.

To register for the lessons, email Derbyshire Community Tennis or call (386) 671-8330. No new registrations will be accepted after the third week of lessons.

Summer concerts start Memorial Day weekend at the Bandshell

The popular Friday and Saturday night summer concerts at the Daytona Beach Oceanfront Bandshell are returning Memorial Day weekend. Tribute bands performing at 7:15 p.m. each night include:

  • Friday, May 27 – Come Monday, a tribute to Jimmy Buffett
  • Saturday, May 28 – Never Stop Believin’, a tribute to Journey
  • Sunday, May 29 – The Beach Buoys, a tribute to The Beach Boys

 
The Memorial Day concerts are free to the public with the option to purchase VIP seats for $10 plus applicable surcharges. Guests are welcome to bring their own chairs to the concerts or purchase VIP tickets, which include a seat. VIP tickets are available for purchase online or 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Peabody Box Office. This year’s Friday and Sunday summer concerts are presented by the City of Daytona Beach. Participating sponsors include Beach 92.7 FM, Kool 100.9 FM and Gary Yeoman’s Ford. The Saturday night concerts are proudly presented by the Friends of the Bandshell.
