Enjoy swimming at Cypress Aquatic Center

Get ready to make a splash this summer at Cypress Aquatic Center, 981 George W. Engram Blvd. Lap swimming is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. The swimming pool with a zero-depth area, water structures and slide is open noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for youth. Registration open for swim lessons for all ages

The city is committed to offering swim lessons for people of all ages. According to the Florida Department of Health, the number of children who drown in Florida each year could fill three to four preschool classrooms. These drownings include deaths in swimming pools and other bodies of water; infants have drowned in bathtubs and even buckets. Teach your child to swim at the city’s Cypress Aquatic Center this summer. 

  • Baby & Me Swim Program
    The Baby & Me Swim Program is for for youth ages 6 months to 3 years old. Sessions are $30 for the month and are 11 to 11:45 a.m. every Saturday.   
  • Adult and Children Swim Lessons
    Swim lessons are ongoing for youth ages 4 and older, with participants divided into four groups: Tots 1 & 2, Level 1 & 2, Teens 1 & 2 and adults. Thirty-minute classes are offered for each group starting with Tots 1 & 2 at 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Lessons are $30 per participant for a total of eight lessons.  
  • Swim League
    Registration is open for a non-competitive swim league for youth ages 7 and older. Sessions begin at 6:15 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday. The swim league focuses on building skills including endurance, strength, dives and turns. Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards. The fee is $30 per month. 

The swim lessons and league are sponsored by AdventHealth Daytona Beach, Humana and Kiwanis Club Daytona Beach. Scholarships are available for the swim lessons and league for qualifying youth. For more information, call (386) 671-8393.

Free youth football camp offered at Daytona Stadium

Registration is open for the Bruce McNorton Football Camp, which is hosted by former NFL star Bruce McNorton. This free camp is 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 9, at Daytona Stadium, 3917 LPGA Blvd. Several former and current football players will provide instruction during the clinic. The youth camp aims to teach and improve football technique, teamwork and sportsmanship skills for youth ages 6 through high school. Onsite registration will be accepted.

Daytona Beach Gymnastics is hosting a summer specialty camp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 26-29 at Schnebly Recreation Center, 1101 N. Atlantic Ave. Offered to boys and girls ages 5 and older, this camp includes fitness games, crafts, movie time and fun provided by gymnastics coaching staff. The camp fee is $149. Summer concerts and fireworks

Enjoy free concerts at the Daytona Beach Oceanfront Bandshell starting at 7:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights this summer. VIP tickets for the Friday and Saturday night concerts are available for $15 plus applicable surcharges.  

The Saturday night concerts will be followed by the “Bud Light - Lights Up Daytona” fireworks display at about 9:45 p.m. The Saturday night summer fireworks are sponsored in part by the City of Daytona Beach. 

The Friday night Sounds of Summer Concert Series presenting sponsor is the City of Daytona Beach. Participating sponsors are Daytona International Speedway, Hometown News, Beach 92.7 FM, Kix Country 98.7 FM, Kool 100.9 FM, Gary Yeomans Ford, WSBB 106.9 FM, Harry’s Famous Pizza, Coca-Cola and Bud Light. 

The Saturday night Star Spangled Summer Concert Series title sponsor is Daytona Beach Boardwalk. Presenting sponsors are City of Daytona Beach, Bud Light, and Ocean Walk Shoppes. Participating sponsors are 95.7 The Hog Radio, Jon Hall Chevrolet Daytona, Ocean Center Daytona Beach, Coca Cola, and Pizza King on the Boardwalk.

Tickets on sale to see Patti LaBelle at Peabody Auditorium

Tickets are on sale to see Patti LaBelle in concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Peabody Auditorium. Presented by AEG, tickets can be purchased online or between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Peabody Box Office. Tickets prices range from $49.50 to $124.50 plus applicable surcharges.

The city sponsored Midtown Music Concert Series is underway at Cypress Park. The best bands in the area will be playing from 7 to 9 p.m. on select Saturday nights through Sept. 16. Admission is free. Upcoming concerts:  

  • June 10: LA Robinson and the Streetlife Band 
  • July 15: Divas of Jazz 
  • Aug. 19: Chris McNeil 
  • Sept. 16: Franchise Players  

Attendees can enjoy Line Dancing with Eddra before the concerts from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Food and drink vendors will be onsite during the concerts. Attendees can bring their own lawn chairs. No coolers are allowed. Cypress Park is at 981 George W. Engram Blvd.  

This year’s sponsors of the Midtown Music Concert Series are Humana and United Healthcare.

Riverfront Esplanade activities

Spanning a mile of shoreline along the Halifax River, the Riverfront Esplanade on Beach Street is a premier gathering space for passive reflection and recreational activities. Featuring a running trail, comfortable benches and swings overlooking the scenic Halifax River, play features for children, a dog park with an agility course and restrooms, the Esplanade is open daily 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The southern section, which runs from Orange Avenue to International Speedway Boulevard remains under construction and will open later this year. Upcoming events include: 

  • June 17: Juneteenth Freedom Day 5K
     7 a.m. to noon 
  • June 25: Riverfront Market 
    8 to 11 a.m. Shop local vendors and enjoy music and a Wellness Walk starting at 8 a.m.
