Franchise Players in concert Saturday night

Enjoy a free performance by The Franchise Players starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Cypress Park. The group, featuring Andrew Luv, blends elements of soul, pop, smooth jazz, hip hop and more for a unique and refreshing musical experience. Attendees can enjoy free Line Dancing with Eddra before the concert from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Food and drink vendors will be onsite during the concert. Attendees can bring their own lawn chairs. No coolers are allowed. This year’s sponsors of the Midtown Music Concert Series are Humana and United Healthcare.

Youth can volunteer to serve on advisory board 

Applications are being accepted from youth who want to serve on the city’s new Youth Advisory Board. Commissioners approved the creation of the Youth Advisory Board at their Aug. 16 meeting. Participants will learn about local government and provide input and helpful information to the City Commission as it relates to issues that affect the city's youth. The board is open to students in grades ninth through 12, have at least a 2.25 GPA and are Daytona Beach residents.

Waiving of permit fees to promote reinvestment ends soon

There is a little over a month left in the two-year initiative to waive building permit fees in the area bordered by Mason Avenue to Shady Place and Ridgewood Avenue to Nova Road. Roof replacements, upgraded electrical and fire suppression systems and new fences, doors, windows and air conditioners are some examples of the investment being made by residential and commercial property owners in the area bordered by Mason Avenue to Shady Place and Ridgewood Avenue to Nova Road. 

Permit applications are available online and can also be picked up at the Permits and Licensing office at City Hall, 301 S. Ridgewood Ave. Completed applications can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, faxed to (386) 671-8149 or submitted via email. For more information, call (386) 671-8178.

When a citywide emergency happens, such as the area is threatened by a tropical storm, residents can be alerted via text and/or email by registering with the city’s alert notification system. Registration is offered at no charge; however, your carrier may charge a fee to receive messages.

Report clogged stormwater drains

Residents may notice water ponding in roadways when it rains. They should keep all stormwater run-off areas around their home, including roadway gutters, free and clear of debris and obstructions.  

If residents see anyone dumping illegal contents into stormwater drains or notice flooding as a result of a potentially clogged drain, notify the city’s 24-hour dispatch center at (386) 671-8815 or report it online.
