Road Repaving Program

The City of Daytona Beach is entering its fifth year of the Citywide Road Resurfacing and Restoration Program. To date, nearly 140 lane miles have been repaved, enhancing travel safety and road durability. This year’s $5.7 million initiative will resurface 14 miles of roadway.

Program Highlights:

  • Citywide Road Survey: A new evaluation of road conditions begins in January to guide future priorities.
  • Derbyshire Sidewalks – Phase 2: $528,596 allocated to improve pedestrian safety near the Derbyshire Sports Complex, with completion expected by summer.
  • Milling and Resurfacing: 14 miles of roadway will be resurfaced, addressing maintenance and reclamation needs.
  • Utility Coordination: The program will align with utility improvements to minimize disruptions.

Since its start, the program has improved 30% of the city’s roads and upgraded 168 sidewalk ramps for ADA compliance. Crews have began work on residential streets north of Seabreeze Boulevard, expected to take less than two weeks. For information on which streets will be resurfaced, visit www.DaytonaBeach.gov/RoadRepaving.

Connectivity Efforts on Main Street

Daytona Beach’s City Commission, acting as the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), unanimously approved a key project to reimagine the Main Street and Ocean Avenue areas. The $59,100 allocation, funded through the Main Street Redevelopment CRA Trust, will support the development of a comprehensive conceptual landscape design.

Focusing on streetscape enhancements, this initiative seeks to create an attractive and functional environment spanning Main Street, from Peninsula Drive to the beach, S. Ocean Avenue to Harvey Avenue and Harvey Avenue to the Halifax River. By creating connectivity and revitalizing the streetscape, the project aims to encourage new business investments, job creation and increased property values in the Main Street Redevelopment Area.

Key features of the project include:

  • Conceptual streetscape designs with multiple roadway, pedestrian, landscaping and lighting options.
  • Enhanced pedestrian and bicycle pathways for better connectivity.
  • Integrated designs for public and private properties, promoting cohesive area development.
  • Visual presentations and cross-sections for stakeholders and public discussion.

“This project is a crucial step in transforming the Main Street area into a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly space that benefits residents, businesses and visitors alike,” said Redevelopment Director Ken Thomas. “The support from Catalyst Design Group will help align the redevelopment efforts with the community’s vision for the future.”

Catalyst Design Group will deliver detailed design options, including visual renderings and cost estimates. A series of workshops and presentations will provide opportunities for collaboration with city officials, stakeholders and residents.
