MARCH 19, 2025 The latest edition of the City Manager’s Update newsletter highlights key initiatives, projects and events shaping Daytona Beach: - Sesquicentennial Celebration – Daytona Beach will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2026. Staff and a City Commission-appointed Sesquicentennial Ambassador Committee will plan a year-long series of events, including a weekend festival, social media campaign, themed activities, digital history tours and community giveaways.
- Emergency Preparedness – Daytona Beach International Airport completed a full-scale emergency response exercise with over 200 participants, improving coordination for future incidents.
- DBPD Captain’s Achievement – Police Captain Jeremy Nikolow graduated from the FBI National Academy, joining an elite group of law enforcement professionals. Congratulations, Captain Nikolow!
- Mayor Henry’s Address—Mayor Derrick L. Henry was the keynote speaker at this month’s Daytona Regional Chamber Eggs & Issues breakfast, discussing city progress, traffic, affordable housing, and more.
Updates on City Projects & Improvements: - City Street Survey – Advanced technology will assess pavement conditions; the final report will be completed by June.
- Derbyshire Sidewalks – New sidewalks are installed on Vine Street & surrounding areas, with more to come.
- Daytona Beach Pier Repairs – Damaged plywood is being replaced, and the project is expected to be finished this week.
- Electric Vehicle Chargers – All five new EV charging stations are operational.
