The latest City Manager’s Update newsletter is available, and it features important updates, community milestones and upcoming events. Here are a few highlights:

 

Water safety
The city continues to prioritize water safety through several recent initiatives. These include the Swim with a First Responder event at Daytona Lagoon, water rescue training for police recruits and an upcoming beach and pool safety program for summer campers.

 

Shell-ebrate Daytona Beach! New mural at the marina
A vibrant sea turtle mural by talented artist Tiffany Urquhart adds color and culture to the Halifax Harbor Marina. This marks Urquhart’s sixth mural in the city’s growing public art collection.

 

Daytona Beach Schools help propel Volusia County to historic “A” rating
Volusia County Schools earned an A rating from the Florida Department of Education for the first time since 2008-09. Daytona Beach schools played a key role in this success, with both Mainland and Seabreeze high schools, as well as Beachside Elementary, receiving A grades.

 

County-owned parking lots transition to cashless Aug. 1
Beginning Aug. 1, parking at the Ocean Center garage and nearby surface lots will move to a cashless system. There is a flat rate of $10 for patrons attending events at the Peabody Auditorium and Bandshell.

 

Project updates

  • New playground and fitness equipment will be installed at Midtown Recreation Complex by late August
  • FDOT starts roadwork along the Mason Avenue corridor, from Clyde Morris Blvd. to east of Beach Street
  • Repairs to the Halifax Harbor Marina fishing pier begin next month
  • The Bookland Bridge restoration project is set to begin in August

  • Sounds of Summer concert featuring Prince tribute band Sir Jac, July 18
  • Rum Fest Street Party on Main Street, July 19
  • Meet & Greet with Bethune-Cookman University President Dr. Mosley, July 23
  • Sun Soaked Social on Main Street, July 26
  • National Night Out with the Daytona Beach Police Department, Aug. 5
  • Vendor applications are being accepted for a new Artisan Market at the Yvonne Scarlett-Golden Center starting this fall
