Here are topics featured in this week’s City Manager’s Update: - Black Heritage Trail Signage – New interpretive signs were installed at 19 historic sites. The new signage was funded by a $50,000 state grant.
- Animal Shelter Services – Effective Oct. 1, the city’s animal sheltering provider is New Hope Animal Shelter in DeLand, replacing Halifax Humane Society. Details for stray animals, owner surrenders and Trap-Neuter-Release services are available at DaytonaBeach.gov/AnimalServices.
- Staff Achievement – Congratulations to Permits & Licensing Project Manager Kim Flaherty, who earned Florida’s Master Code Enforcement Professional certification. She is the only woman in the state with this designation.
- Transform386 Event – In-person homeowner recovery intake event Thursday, Oct. 2, 4–7 p.m. at Daytona Beach Regional Library to assist residents with hurricane-related housing repairs or buyouts.
- Capital Projects in Progress:
- Bookland Bridge deck, lighting and rail upgrades on track for completion by year’s end.
- Halifax Harbor Marina Fishing Pier nearing completion, with FEMA covering most of the cost.
- Derbyshire sidewalks and ADA accessibility upgrades completed, improving safety.
- Daytona Beach Golf Club fence replacement begins this month along Beville Road.
- Upcoming events:
- Main Street Arch Ribbon Cutting – Join us at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, to celebrate the $934,000 restoration of the city’s iconic Main Street Arch.
- Fire Prevention Night – Free family event at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, on Beach Street at Magnolia Avenue, presented by Daytona Beach Fire Department.
- Midtown Sundayz at Daisy Stocking Park has been extended through December. The next Midtown Sundayz is Oct. 12, 3–8 p.m.
- Artisan Market at YSG, Oct. 18, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. at Yvonne Scarlett-Golden Center, 1000 Vine Street
