In today’s City Manager’s Update newsletter, the following topics are highlighted: 

  • Road resurfacing: Next week, crews will start another phase of the Road Resurfacing and Restoration Program in Commission Zones 1 and 2, repaving about 3.5 lane miles over an estimated 2–3 weeks (weather permitting). The next phase will include neighborhood streets in Commission Zone 4.  
  • New mural in Downtown Daytona Beach: “The Redemption of Eve,” a large-scale mural by artist Marissa Espach, has been created on the exterior of The Medicine Bar,115 Myrtle Lane. The city supported the project through the Downtown CRA Redevelopment Grant Program, contributing $10,000.
  • Volusia Values Veterans Program: The countywide Volusia Values Veterans Program (V3P) is accepting nominations for the inaugural Honor a Veteran recognition program. The nomination deadline is April 1.

 In the Works:

  • Boardwalk Beach Access stairs/ramps: Under construction; two of four ramps are complete and open. Remaining work includes additional ramps/stairs, seawall replacement and dune mitigation, with completion expected this spring.
  • City Island seawall reconstruction: Under construction in the Halifax River from Orange Ave. to Magnolia Ave.; This project received significant grant support from FIND.
  • Breakers Oceanfront Park: A new playground will replace the nearly 20-year-old splash pad, supported by a $425,000 grant from the Daytona Beach Racing and Recreational Facilities District.

  • Hurricane Ian & Nicole Residential Recovery Assistance Program with a community information session at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 at the Dickerson Center. Grants of up to $15,000 may be available for eligible homeowners; in-person application dates at the Dickerson Center are Feb. 26 and March 5, 12, and 26 (11 a.m.–1 p.m.).
