City Commissioner Quanita May 

City commissioner Quanita May was first elected into office in 2018 to represent Zone 3, which includes Daytona Beach’s downtown area, parts of Bethune-Cookman University, Ridgewood Avenue corridor from Madison Avenue south to Shady Place and on beachside from Seabreeze Boulevard south to Silver Beach Avenue. According to recently released census figures, there are 19,676 residents who call Zone 3 home.

Commissioner May, who has lived in in the Daytona Beach area for more than 18 years, is a downtown business owner specializing in fitness training, dance lessons, personal development and business plan coaching. As a fitness expert, she has a passion for bringing wellness to children at our local schools and universities and to seniors in housing facilities. She is also a registered Marriage and Family Therapist with the State of Florida. 

Prior to being elected to the City Commission, Commissioner May served on the city’s Downtown Redevelopment Board and currently serves as the City Commission’s representative on the Downtown Development Authority, an alternate commissioner on the Affordable Housing Advisory Board and is a board member of the Health Care Planning Network of Florida

 Education: 

  • Daytona State College, associate degree in general education
  • University of Central Florida, bachelor’s degree in liberal studies
  • Webster University, master’s degree in marketing
  • North Central University, master’s degree in marriage and family therapy
