Charges are pending at this time after a 55-year-old woman lost her life this morning (December 8th) in a collision with an antique car.
The Daytona Beach Police Department responded to the scene on South Ridgewood Avenue near Shady Place soon after the call for help came in at 12:06 a.m.
Traffic homicide investigators learned that a black two-door 1905 Ford passenger car driven by 39-year-old Adam R. Winterstien was in the right northbound lane on Ridgewood approaching Blanche Place.
At the same time, the victim – Sharon L. Austell – was attempting to walk across Ridgewood at Blanche alongside a co-worker. That’s when the front passenger side of the Ford struck Austell.
The driver of the Ford pulled the vehicle off the roadway at the next immediate safe place and attempted to assist the victim.
Paramedics arrived on scene a few minutes later and confirmed Austell’s death.
No injuries were reported by the victim’s co-worker, the driver of the Ford and a woman who was a passenger in the Ford at the time of the accident.
The Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office took possession of the victim. Her next of kin has been notified.
The antique Ford was towed from the scene and will be held for further investigation as traffic homicide detectives continue to work the case.
