The Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) wants the public’s help to solve the suspicious death of a 34-year-old Ormond Beach man last night at a beachside motel.
A manager at Happy Holiday Motel (1617 North Atlantic Avenue) called DBPD for assistance shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday (January 18, 2020).
That manager – who lives at the motel – told emergency dispatchers that he went to his front door after hearing persistent knocking and that is when he found a man bleeding and crawling on the ground just outside the door.
That man has since been identified as 34-year-old Jeffrey J. Schusky (pictured).
Two officers and paramedics arrived within minutes, finding Schusky unresponsive and lying on the ground with a knife next to his body.
Attempts to revive Schusky at the scene were unsuccessful.
First responders discovered a puncture wound in Schusky’s upper left abdomen, but it is unclear what caused it or if that has anything to do with his death.
An autopsy to determine the exact cause of death is set for today (January 19) at the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Prior to this incident, Schusky had rented a room at Happy Holiday Motel.
A motive behind the death is not clear at the moment.
We are asking anyone who may have seen or been with Schusky last night to tell us what they know.
Anyone who has more information is urged to contact Detective Jayson Wallace at (386) 671-5207 or WallaceJayson@dbpd.us regarding Case 200001195.
